The Gallipoli project, here where the sea ends and the land begins, was born from the idea of proposing the museum as a narrative habitat, an active place of artistic experimentation and a territory of memory, where interactive languages enhance the conditions of participation with the public and with virtual communities.

In particular, the project aims to promote and enhance the cultural heritage in its entirety, to encourage the deseasonalization of present tourist activities, the lengthening of tourist stays, the strong integration between the coastal system, traditionally linked to a seaside tourism and the new potential of the city of art with its cultural and historical emergencies. The project was created to allow papers and documents to communicate in a lively and attractive multimedia language, in person and remotely, to invest in the enjoyment of cultural heritage.

“The project is based on the belief that without knowledge there is no lasting valorisation and without protection there cannot be a heritage to be passed on to future generations. The Administration's objective is to make cultural heritage accessible through methods that encourage innovation in protection and valorization systems. In this sense, we intend to create an interaction of skills and knowledge, creating a significant synergistic solution between cultural heritage. This is a project studied down to the smallest detail and which will highlight the cultural aspect of the city. I therefore thank the manager Maria Teresa De Lorenzis and the director of the Museum Paola Renna for the work done, for having worked hard for this latest extraordinary result" declares the mayor Stefano Minerva.

The project involves a total amount of approximately 341 thousand euros: 80% - equal to 273 thousand euros - corresponds to the financing guaranteed by the MIC, while 20% is ensured as mandatory co-financing by the Municipality of Gallipoli, in the total amount of 68 thousand euros.

Gallipoli, here where the sea ends and the land begins, is divided into six actions starting from the cataloging of the ancient book collection made up of rare and valuable books, a very precious heritage of around 10,000 volumes dating back to between the century XVII-XIX. Particular attention is also given to the digitization of some rare and valuable volumes from the Civic Museum collection, pre-unification documents from the Municipal Archives and the Vernole archive collection containing rare musical scores. Among the many also the digitization of the "Donor Register", the manuscript which constitutes a precious tool for reconstructing the provenance of the funds received by the Museum, compiled from the date of 28 November 1866 until 18 February 1994.

The actions also include the creation of the digital library, the setting up of two thematic itineraries for multimedia use (augmented reality), the valorisation of the assets through educational activities focused on the heritage and on the figure of the founder of the Emanuele Barba Museum and the 'Installation of a life-size artistic paper reproduction of Emanuele Barba.

“The contents created and the textual insights will be inserted into touchscreen tables so that they can be used in an accessible and interactive way by everyone. The interactivity and intuitive graphics given by these tools will allow the user a better understanding and greater user involvement. Thanks to touch applications it will be possible to enjoy an interactive, fun and exciting visiting experience. Culture must and will be accessible, in every sense.” concludes Mayor Minerva.
